What is Newport Select Boys Basketball Club?

Newport Select Boys Basketball Club (NSBBC) organizes select teams for 4th through 8th graders to compete in the ETL and PEAK leagues. To be eligible to try out and play for our teams, players must either live in the Newport HS boundary, be part of a BSD choice program (e.g., Puesta del Sol, Jing Mei, etc.), or have a parent who is employed by Bellevue School District or be part of our coaching staff. Players for these teams are selected through a try out process and all interested players are encouraged to participate. All try-outs are held at a local school on dates and times announced shortly after the start of the school year. Team selection is based on many factors including, but not limited to, individual player development, team dynamic, player skills, potential, attitude, and effort. Making a team one year does not guarantee a player will make the team the next year. Try outs typically are held over two days, and all players should attend both try-out dates for their grade level unless they make other arrangements.

How do you try out?

Tryouts are held over two evenings around the second week of September at Bellevue area gyms. There might be a cost to tryout. Tryout registration will begin in mid-August.

When do we play?

Practices generally start the first week of October, at Newport High School feeder schools. Specific times and locations are announced once gym schedules are available. Each team will hold a 1 to 1 ½ hour practice, two times per week.

Regular season games typically begin the first weekend in December and end with a playoff tournament typically the first week of March, with the possibility of qualifying for the Washington State Basketball Championship tournament in Spokane in Mid-March. During the season each team will typically play one to two games per weekend. Games are played at Eastside area high schools and possibly middle school gyms.

In addition to regular season games, each team will typically play in a few local weekend tournaments during the season. Coaches will select which weekend tournaments to enter.

What league do we play?

Our teams play in either the Eastside Travel League (ETL) or the PEAK League

What is the cost of play?

The cost for the 2024-2025 fall/winter season is $800 per player, which includes NSBBC uniform (use for the season), sweatshirt, and practice jerseys/pinnies.
